Relevant for nearly 70 years
The International Award for Young People has its origins in the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, founded in 1956 by the British Duke of Edinburgh in collaboration with German educator Kurt Hahn. This organisation is also known as the DofE.
They wanted to support young people on their journey to self-development, regardless of their background, culture, physical abilities, skills or interests. Together they created a program that supports young people on their journey to self-development as they find their purpose, passion and place in the world.
Since then, more than 5.5 million Awards have been granted in 160 different countries. The Dutch organization has existed since 1993.
